Being an author is nuts but so am I!

Before I ever thought of writing a book I was an avid reader of romance novels gobbling up four or five a week minimum. I had no clue what the authors went through to bring me those hot scenes and addictive characters. Now I do and the appreciation meter is through the roof! I've been trudging along for two years now writing and loving every insane wild minute of it!
Writing is not just a job it's a passion and unfortunately there are a billion other people with the same passion. We all share the same dream of doing something we love and making money while doing it but it's not that easy, not at all. The fact is that there is an ocean full of talented writers who will probably never be discovered and it's heartbreaking. Unless you've got a little money and maybe even a friend who knows something about marketing and publishing a book you're sorta screwed. Sometimes it feels as impossible as breaking the sound barrier with a fiat but we keep plugging away. We use every second of every day that we aren't busy doing all of the other things like laundry, working a full time job, taking kids to school and oh I don't know living! And that's not it... oh no not even close. If an author can manage to finish writing their first draft you can bet they're yelling 'whoohoo oh my God I just typed The End!' little do they know they are only about twenty- five percent there. After a couple days of celebration the new author finally comes down from their high and realizes there are about a zillion edits to be done. They start the process of going back and forth with their editor and then back and forth some more until finally they're done...yea no... not really. Now they need a cover, a proofreader, beta readers and an awesome formatter to make all of the long hours of writing pretty and if you don't know anybody in 'the biz' again I say your screwed.
Every author has their own story, the Jodi Ellen Malpas's and Colleen Hoover's have immediate success with their first books and then there are the people who have no idea what they're doing and learn one tiny tidbit about being an author every day until bam they've got a hit! And then there are the writers who shouldn't be touching a pen to a sheet of paper or tapping their fingers on a keyboard...ever.
Authors and writers old and new who are successful or flops Indie or published make up the melting pot of some of the most interesting, intelligent, wacky, out of their mind people that populate the earth and I'd like to say how proud I am to be included in that group of people!

Why I went mental wait, wait no... I mean why I started writing.

Every writer has a story of how they got started writing and I'd like to share mine with you.

I hadn't been an avid reader for years due to my other full time gigs raising kids and working as a registered nurse in OB. But when all the hubbub surrounding FSOG began I thought ok what the hell I'll see what this is all about. When an entire unit of nurses ranging in age from 19-70 years old can't stop talking about a book I gotta read it! So I did just that, I borrowed it from another nurse and read it. Don't hate me now but I didn't really care for the writing and the content was a little disturbing so I gave it back and politely declined the second installment. Then... I got to thinking I'd like to know what happened to poor Anastasia so I got online looking for cliff notes to fill in the blanks, do they even make those anymore? I'm showing my age aren't I? Anyway I found some excerpts and changed my mind, I ended up reading them all. I wasn't inspired to write yet though. That came three hundred plus books later when my pediatrician recommended Jodi Ellen Malpas's This Man trilogy. I'd been taking this particular pediatricians advise on the hottest books for a while and she never disappointed me so I bought all three without even reading the synopsis. I didn't care what they were about, the pediatrician recommended them, that's all I needed to know! I devoured page after page and fell in love with love. Being a single mother with zero time to date romance novels quickly became my escape, the place where my prince charming was always chiseled and handsome but troubled and in dire need of a good compassionate woman, like me, to whip him, no pun intended, into shape and teach him how to really love. I needed to know more about the woman who created Jesse Ward, who's name I hated at first. It made me think of Jesse from Full House or Jesse James, or a little girl I knew in kindergarten named Jessi, it didn't fit my image of a dominant professional sex-pert. It grew on me though as did the character and after book one I couldn't have cared less what his name was, he was the Lord to me. But I digress, I needed to know about Jodi Ellen Malpas! I googled her, I google damn near everything, and found she was originally a self published author who had never written a book before This Man. Self published I thought, what's that? And then it began... I researched and pondered and pondered and researched some more until one night at work a fellow smut reading mom and co-worker suggested I write my own book. I immediately thought of Jodi and how she got her start and figured what the hell, I'll give it a shot. Apparently my outbursts and rants in the break room about unrealistic sex scenes, impossible positions and stupid plots led my co-worker to believe this might be a hidden career that was buried deep in my psyche. "You should write a book" She said. Those five simple little words have taken me down the rabbit hole of INDI romance writing for two years now. Three books written and published on Amazon and another one nearly finished I will never be able to thank that co-worker or Jodi Ellen Malpas enough. I've found my passion, my love and my obsession. I've been contacted by fans from all over the world who have become my good friends, they've astonished me with their kindness. A few have even tattooed the quote 'You go, I go' from my trilogy The Two Sides of Me on their bodies and another added Dark Kiss to the pile of her favorite romance novels on a tattoo that covers her entire back! Can you say MIND BLOWN? Yea I know! I was so honored I cried.
I have also met and befriended countless amazing authors of all genres and walks of life that I would never in a million years have crossed paths with otherwise. I've been schooled on a kind of generosity I never knew existed, the kind where strangers give their time and energy to promote an unknown authors work without expecting a single thing in return.
That's my story! Thank you readers, fans, my street team, personal assistants, friends, editors, formatters, cover designers and fellow authors both 'big' and 'small' for you support in my endeavor to write classy smut! I love you!
Now for a shameless plug! Look for Play Me, my upcoming work in progress to be released this fall on Amazon, it's my best work yet, I say that about every book when I'm writing it though, but this time it's true!

Play Me
Amy Lynn Garcia
Coming to Amazon Fall 2015!

How does a class 'A' dick billionaire end up falling in love with a sweet innocent fifteen year old virgin violin prodigy? In the rarest of circumstances Holland Bennett finds herself on the dance floor of the hottest new night club in Houston Texas. Separated from her friends by the throngs of sweaty dancing bodies and full of raspberry kamikazes Holland doesn’t realize she’s just stepped into dangerous bad boy King Romero’s lair.

Determined to help her best friend Holland experience all the 'normal' things that high school students do before she leaves in the fall for Juilliard Savannah makes a wild itinerary for the summer. First thing on that itinerary, get fake ID's and party in dance clubs. Savannah never could have imagined the outrageous life altering complications that she would set into motion with that list.

King has been searching for a way out of his dangerous lavish life since the day his father died leaving him in charge of the Romero empire. After a lifetime of being surrounded by immeasurable wealth King yearns for something different, something bright and pure to help pull him from the trenches of his unfulfilling life.

He didn't know that thing would be Holland.

He didn't know she was fifteen.

He didn't know she was a virgin.

He didn't know he was about to destroy her dreams of playing with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.

Somehow King has to find a way to put the pieces of Hollands life back together even if it means destroying his own.

Secrets and demons from Evan Lawson’s past pull this strong man to the edge of death where only the whispers of a mysterious voice can penetrate his darkness.
A young woman dedicating her entire life to her career and family comes face to face with a heart stopping magnetic man who has the power to make all of her dreams come true or completely destroy her.

Evan is a self made world renowned restaurant mogul who is cold and distant, pushing anyone attempting to enter his life away with intensity. Until the night he hears Mia Galloway’s soft alluring voice calling to him through the murky waters of his unconsciousness.

Love is a foreign notion that neither Mia nor Evan had ever planned on, in fact both had sworn it off entirely. After going through a horrifying kidnapping at the age of 19 Mia made a conscious decision to never get involved with a man….ever. She has dedicated her life to healing others and loving her family and friends. Evan and his demons from the past have shaped him into the dominant, controlling cruel man he is today. The scars from his childhood run deep and the memories of a tormented mother and a father in denial of his wife’s illness bind him emotionally and make him believe he is incapable of love.
Evan and Mia are thrown together in the ICU after he drives his car over the edge of a bridge, killing his passenger immediately. Evan was rushed to a private Seattle hospital where Mia is his nurse. She works at drawing him from his coma but has no idea who she is actually summoning. The man who went over the bridge in that car, the man known to his family and co-workers as “The Beast” teeters on the brink of death, ready and willing to make his way to hell. But when he feels the magnetic pull of Mia’s presence, hears her luring whispers, feels the electric voltage of her touch on his skin…..he knows….he’s not going anywhere…..not until he can see the face that belongs to his savior’s voice…..

Psst... Dark Kiss is FREE for five days starting September 23rd!

If you haven't experienced the dramatic love story of Mia Galloway and Evan Lawson now is the time! Dark Kiss is FREE on Amazon today September 23rd-27th! And for Kindle Unlimited members it's always FREE!

Dark Kiss is one year old tomorrow, wow I can't believe it! It seems like yesterday that I pressed the publish button on Amazon! In honor of the first anniversary of my first book I am going to be offering Dark Thief and Dark Love, books #2 and #3 in the trilogy for free on Amazon from August 26th until August 28th. I know if you read Dark Kiss you'll be hooked so I'm making those cliff hangers a little easier to bear by offering the rest of the trilogy for free for a limited time.

It only takes a few minutes to write a review!

Honest reviews are always welcome and encouraged on Amazon or Goodreads so please, please leave one. It doesn't have to be long just a few words I'm certainly not picky. I love hearing your opinions whether they be positive or negative, I learn from both.

Throw back Thursday...the rewriting of Dark Kiss

So as the roller coaster takes a low dip after the completion of The Two Sides of Me trilogy I've been focusing my attention on one particular project, re-writing Dark Kiss the book that started it all. When I first started writing it was on a whim, I had absolutely no idea where it would take me and with no experience I did the best I could. After 14 months of experience, which I realize isn't much, I have learned a million things and my writing style has changed and improved...or I'd like to think it has!  I am really having fun tweaking Dark Kiss, I can never get enough of Evan and Mia. As soon as I'm finished polishing it up I'll let you know it's been updated on Amazon so you can be sure to reset your kindle and see all of the changes. I'll leave you with a throw back teaser from DK.

What's happening today? Well I'll tell ya...

It's May 6th and I've finished Dark Love through chapter 32, it's getting close! My eyes feel like two little holes filled with lava and my vision is blurry but I'm going to make this deadline no matter what! In other news I've been invited to be an attending author at The Glass City author event in Toledo Ohio October of 2016 and I'm going! I've also been thinking about doing a video for Where I Write, authors are taking people on a tour of their writing space live on twitter with periscope, pretty exciting! For more about Where I Write follow this link http://www.whereiwrite.org/introduction.php
The next time I post I hope to have Dark Love finished so until then I'll leave you with some pretty pictures!

Reviewing...it's easier than you think!

Reviews are so important to authors, I mean seriously really really important! It's a powerful way to recommend our books to others as well as a way to help us improve on our craft. I know for some it feels like judging an author and to some extent it is, but let's face it, we need to know what you  think of our work. Another excuse for not writing a review is "I just don't know what to say, or how to put how I feel into words." Here are my recommendations for you, start with the basics, name of the book, author, where it's available and then a brief description of the story for example. "Dark Kiss is the story of a billionaire restaurant and night club owner who is in a terrible car accident, he winds up in the ICU where his nurse Mia gives him a reason to live." The rest doesn't have to be long or detailed, just let us know if you enjoyed the book or not and why. I've written two sentence reviews before when I don't have much time, especially when the book is part of a series or trilogy and I can't wait to see what happens in book two or three! The idea is go give feedback and spread the word when you find something you love. So you see reviews don't need to be a big deal, just be honest and speak from the heart and the review should write itself.

Excerpt from Dark Love book #3 in The Two Sides of Me trilogy

I will never again be that woman who was afraid of life, who kept her love locked away deep inside, hiding it, sheltering it from anyone who might hurt me again. Taking risks was never my thing but now that seems to be all I do, one after another. Evan has pushed me to be brave and open but most importantly he has taught me to trust. I trust him with my most prized possession, my heart, but I also trust him with my body and my soul, my spirit and my essence. The me I used to be has been forever changed into who I am today and I adore him for helping me along that journey. He makes me strong and weak at the same time, I am powerful and powerless simultaneously. Our devotion is equal, I give he takes, he takes I give, the way it’s supposed to be.

Dark Love is the ending of the epic love story of Evan Lawson and Mia Galloway. Dark Kiss and Dark Thief are available on Amazon now so hurry and get started if you haven't already! Dark Love is due to release May 27, 2015. If you enjoy reading secret excerpts you will want to join my street team Amy's Army. Members work to promote my work through social media, enter and collect votes for contests and read/review ARC's of my latest work and attend events that I am a part of. In return I provide free ARC's, sneak peek of upcoming covers, swag, excerpts from works in progress and the friendship of an awesome group of ladies! If you are interested please email me at amylynngarcia43@gmail.com or PM one of my PA's Stephanie Allen or Julie Minton on Facebook. I look forward to adding you to my team soon! I'll leave you today with the synopsis for upcoming Dark Love and of course a teaser!

One step forward two steps back, that’s how it’s always been for Mia and Evan. The love they share is rare and unique, crossing boundaries and overcoming obstacles. Together they just might have a chance at a happy life, but if one falls the other is destined to crumble, living without one another is not an option. You go. I go.
It’s dangerous to love so hard that life doesn’t seem worth living without your other half. Evan walked a tightrope between life and death choosing life when he heard Mia coaxing him to wake from a coma. Now they must balance together, taking turns catching the other before they fall. Determined to make a new life for Mia and himself Evan tirelessly focuses on erasing the man he used to be. Stamping out all traces of the homicidal DOM mafia leader he was before his accident. But around every bend there seems to be yet another reminder of the man everyone calls the Beast. Mia struggles with the stories and confessions of Evan’s past, but imagining a life without him is unfathomable. Evan and Mia must learn to trust and forgive, forget and move forward…but even when they are both on the same page, someone or something seems to be standing in their way, waiting to steal their happily ever after…

Q&A's are eye opening!

I was asked at a take over yesterday to do an interview for a blog and of course I accepted. I'll post a link when the blog features it. I was thinking last night though while answering the questions, which took me forever by the way, that you can really learn a lot about yourself doing this. I've answered basic questions but some of these were difficult, and I love that! Challenge me and I'm a happy girl! Someone should develop some kind of self help therapy out of deep insightful interview questions! Ok that's all for today, I've got to get back to Dark Love, as always I'll leave you with a teaser. Happy Wednesday!

Welcome to Monday!

TGIM! As a person who works weekends I love Monday, it's my Friday! Let's start off the week with an update on The Two Sides of Me trilogy and it's progress. Currently I have written through chapter 23, whoohoo! I'm also on the hunt for songs to title the chapters with. It's a long  process combing through song after song for that perfect one that correlates with content in each chapter. I also have great news about the release date for Dark Love, I've chosen one! May 27, 2015 it will be available on Amazon, finally I know I know!  I can't imagine what I'll do without Evan and Mia, it's going to be a bittersweet goodbye to my first beloved characters. Have no fear though!  I do have a few stunning leading male characters and the women who love them circling around in my mind just waiting to be written about. Working on Dark Love I've been stewing about the ending. This will be a first for me as you well know, I will not be leaving you dangling off of that sharp steep cliff this time around! I actually have to end the story,  as in type the words THE END! It's simultaneously exciting and melancholy.
As always I'll leave you with the latest teaser for Dark Love, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday with much love, happiness, chocolate and eggs!  <3

So...it's Sunday! Street Team Sunday!

It's Sunday! Sunday brings so many different feelings, for some it's sadness that the weekend is almost over, or panic for procrastinators who haven't done their homework all weekend and now there are only hours left. It's a day of rest for others, a day for family, but for me it is the equivalent of Friday! I work weekends as a nurse and come Sunday afternoon I'm pondering all the things I'll be doing on Monday!
Today I'd like to spotlight my street team Amy's Army on my Friday because weekends are exciting and this is my weekend! Amy's Army is an awesome group of people who support and promote my work. A bunch of women getting together to spread the word about romance novels, who doesn't want to do that? We have a lot of fun on the team playing games, having contests and getting to know each other well. Many members of my team are like family to me, this is my way of saying thank you and I love you!

So many ideas and only ten fingers to type them!

So it was a busy week last week working on writing Dark Love during spring break, a lot was accomplished but I have so many other ideas floating around in my mind! I can't wait to get working on all of them and I'm excited to share some teasers today. As more information becomes available on these new works I'll be sure to pass it along to you all!
