I hadn't been an avid reader for years due to my other full time gigs raising kids and working as a registered nurse in OB. But when all the hubbub surrounding FSOG began I thought ok what the hell I'll see what this is all about. When an entire unit of nurses ranging in age from 19-70 years old can't stop talking about a book I gotta read it! So I did just that, I borrowed it from another nurse and read it. Don't hate me now but I didn't really care for the writing and the content was a little disturbing so I gave it back and politely declined the second installment. Then... I got to thinking I'd like to know what happened to poor Anastasia so I got online looking for cliff notes to fill in the blanks, do they even make those anymore? I'm showing my age aren't I? Anyway I found some excerpts and changed my mind, I ended up reading them all. I wasn't inspired to write yet though. That came three hundred plus books later when my pediatrician recommended Jodi Ellen Malpas's This Man trilogy. I'd been taking this particular pediatricians advise on the hottest books for a while and she never disappointed me so I bought all three without even reading the synopsis. I didn't care what they were about, the pediatrician recommended them, that's all I needed to know! I devoured page after page and fell in love with love. Being a single mother with zero time to date romance novels quickly became my escape, the place where my prince charming was always chiseled and handsome but troubled and in dire need of a good compassionate woman, like me, to whip him, no pun intended, into shape and teach him how to really love. I needed to know more about the woman who created Jesse Ward, who's name I hated at first. It made me think of Jesse from Full House or Jesse James, or a little girl I knew in kindergarten named Jessi, it didn't fit my image of a dominant professional sex-pert. It grew on me though as did the character and after book one I couldn't have cared less what his name was, he was the Lord to me. But I digress, I needed to know about Jodi Ellen Malpas! I googled her, I google damn near everything, and found she was originally a self published author who had never written a book before This Man. Self published I thought, what's that? And then it began... I researched and pondered and pondered and researched some more until one night at work a fellow smut reading mom and co-worker suggested I write my own book. I immediately thought of Jodi and how she got her start and figured what the hell, I'll give it a shot. Apparently my outbursts and rants in the break room about unrealistic sex scenes, impossible positions and stupid plots led my co-worker to believe this might be a hidden career that was buried deep in my psyche. "You should write a book" She said. Those five simple little words have taken me down the rabbit hole of INDI romance writing for two years now. Three books written and published on Amazon and another one nearly finished I will never be able to thank that co-worker or Jodi Ellen Malpas enough. I've found my passion, my love and my obsession. I've been contacted by fans from all over the world who have become my good friends, they've astonished me with their kindness. A few have even tattooed the quote 'You go, I go' from my trilogy The Two Sides of Me on their bodies and another added Dark Kiss to the pile of her favorite romance novels on a tattoo that covers her entire back! Can you say MIND BLOWN? Yea I know! I was so honored I cried.
I have also met and befriended countless amazing authors of all genres and walks of life that I would never in a million years have crossed paths with otherwise. I've been schooled on a kind of generosity I never knew existed, the kind where strangers give their time and energy to promote an unknown authors work without expecting a single thing in return.
That's my story! Thank you readers, fans, my street team, personal assistants, friends, editors, formatters, cover designers and fellow authors both 'big' and 'small' for you support in my endeavor to write classy smut! I love you!
